The Injured Workers’ Consultants Community Legal Clinic has, in its submissions to the ongoing Changing Workplaces Review, asked for the experience and perspective of injured workers to be taken into account in reforming the employment standards regime. The Sep. 18 submission recommends a focus on health and human rights; the harmonization of all workplace and employment-related legislation so the same fair rules apply to everyone; ensuring standards create healthy jobs and workplaces; strengthening regulation, investigation and enforcement.

In its earlier Sep. 11 presentation  to the Special Advisors, the Clinic explains how, in addition to the Employment Standards Act, other important employment laws such as the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act (or WSIA) are also losing their potential to protect workers in the changing economy and workplaces, and should be considered in the context of this review.
